The Kickstarter for Golem Arcana – The Digitally Enhanced Miniatures Board Game – funds for half a million US$, at more or less the last minute! The game – Golem Arcana – isn’t truly my cup of tea (from what I see), but the campaign for it shows wonderfully that it is worth fighting for a Kickstarter campaign, even if it doesn’t fund in multiple 1000% on the first day or two.
#1 – Golem Arcana – The Comeback Kickstarter
Harebrained Schemes started the Golem Arcana with an ambitious goal of US$ 500.000,-.
A lot of money!
Though the campaign did take in over US$ 100.000,- on the first day from all the people who were waiting for it to start, the campaign went into the doldrums soon after, falling to a trickle of pledges, far from what be needed to fund the Kickstarter without another huge rush towards the end.
Less than 48 hours ago, the campaign was still short over US$ 100.000,-
#2 – Stay Positive & Fight!
A lot of times, Kickstarter campaigns that look like they will fall short see a drastic change in the atmosphere in the comments section. Backers, who clearly love the campaign they are backing, start to gnash teeth, point to other, successfully funded campaigns to accuse them of not “doing Kickstarter properly”, even turn on the project-creators for failing to do X or Y.
It can quickly sap the positive spirit from any campaign.
Most campaigns (at least in tabletop) tend to give up early, if Kicktraq predictions look dire.
Golem Arcana seems to have avoided this for the most part. Project creators and project backers really pulled together, everyone giving their best to promote the campaign and bringing in a few social media celebrities with a knack for games to help them push for the finishing line.
And… it worked!
#3 – Golem Arcana Final Rally
In the final ~ 46 hours, Golem Arcana added another ~ 500 backers, each pledging over US$ 230 on average, funding the project with some 6 to 8 hours to go!
Congratulations!
#4 – Kickstarter Success
This time next year, we’ll see lots of people invading the gaming clubs with bluetooth / TDI stylus pens to battle it out on their iPad I suppose.
I hope somebody will demo it for me!
Without a doubt, it’s a Kickstarter campaign that proves that it is worth fighting, even if there’s a lull in the middle, and that not all big success-stories on Kickstarter need to start with being funded in the first few hours.
