Adepta Sororitas – GW Is Doing Previews Again!

Games Workshop Digital Editions is fast becoming my favourite part of the company. No, I still don’t have an iPad (or Android-something), but it seems they’ve assembled a team there that’s allowed to use previews to build anticipation for upcoming releases!

Yesterday, lots of teasers – artwork and rules – went up on the Black Library (“Games Workshop Publications”) website for the upcoming Sisters of Battle Adepta Sororitas Digital Codex.

Update: The digital Codex: Adepta Sororitas is now available on iTunes.

#1 – Adepta Sororitas Artwork Previews

In the years since Codex: Witch Hunters was released, there have been huge amounts of new artwork created based on the Sisters of Battle. Those of you familiar with Fantasy Flight Games’ range of Warhammer 40,000 books, may recognise some of the artwork in the new codex from those pages, but there are loads of new pieces..

#2 – Adepta Sororitas Rules Previews

The rules of course, have been updated as well. All the newer Codexes contain army-specific Warlord Traits and unique items, and this Codex is no exception.

Existing players will also notice a few other changes, particularly the way Acts of Faith work with your army. There are even a few additions that other newer Codexes don’t have, such as Apocalypse Formations and Altar of War scenarios.

Thoughts?

There’s a lot more from where these came from! Great stuff!

“Pre-orders” will go up tomorrow (pre-orders for a digital book?) and the Adepta Sororitas download will be available next Friday, October 19th.

Now, a few questions obviously arise:

  • Will Games Workshop ever adopt previews like this on a broader basis, or is it only because Sisters are the odd one out?
  • Will the Codex Adepta Sororitas see a print-version similar to the Codex Supplements?

Either way, exciting times ahead for Sisters of Battles (as exciting as they are likely to get without new miniatures, I suppose).

Let me know what you think!

Z.

correction gw aren’t doing previews black library are ;-)

From what I know, “Black Library” doesn’t exist anymore as a separate dept. in GW (there’s of course the authors, but they aren’t on a payroll, they get royalties).

The staff in Nottingham is now all sitting in a dept. called “Games Workshop Publications”, who do the editorial, layout, etc.. for all GW publications.

      • belverker

fair enough I was kinda joking anyway ;-) i’ll be getting the digital edition but hope they do a hardback as well

      • Bobthemim

It is a shame BL are no longer just “BL” like FW is.

I just wish they got rid of the exclusive hard backs to stores.. It means the only place i can get them is GW at £20+ or torrent.. and i would rather not go to jail because GW are merciless with their suing.

        • http://pinsofwar.net/ Zweischneid

I can see the frustration, but you know that this is a hard stance to maintain.

Just because I can’t afford a Rolex, doesn’t make it right to support knock-offs if Rolex doesn’t lower their prices.

          • Bobthemim

Oh I know that.. I was using torrenting as an example that the only other way of getting that book for the people who cant afford full price is illegally.

Despite BL books are legally obliged to be Library accessible, 40% of their stock is unavailable.. and I am not on about the OoP stuff..

I mean i couldnt find recent HH books (last 2-3years)

Nice to see they clarified the “Adepta” in Adepta Sororitas.

Ouch, 12 points for a sister.

    • William Jameson

It was 12 points per sister in the White Dwarf codex too (though 11 in Witch Hunters). For 12 points you get the shooting proficiency of a Marine, the toughness of an Eldar and the Mark of Tzeentch for free.

If we think about it in a vacuum alongside another MEQ, say one which has flexible stat lines depending on the choices made. A Chaos Marine is 13 points. Plus Tzeentch (in this case Shield of Faith if it hasn’t changed) for the 6+ invul makes it 15 points, minus Nurgle for the lower Toughness makes it 12 points. Let’s take away the cost of the Mark of Slaanesh since they also only have I3, making them worth 10 points in comparison. Possibly less unless each squad’s Acts of Faith make up for the negative adjustment to their WS and S.

  • hambilton

I am of course very excited about this. The only issue I see is that you have no way to scale the special weapons beyond a 5 man squad. 3 special weapons or 2 specials and a heavy is really pretty nice, but if you have a squad of 20 its still just that.

So, why no resin versions of the whole line? To many old metal combat nuns laying around that need to be unloaded most likely. I was looking forward to the re-release of this, but won’t spend a dime without a total rework akin to the effort they put into the dark elves and the dark eldar. This just feels to much like a money grab, before they re-re-change the miniature line.

    • Yggdrasil

Indeed, their “new” “bundles” are pretty disappointing… At least they could have turned to resin… Well, maybe it just wasn’t worth it to them on a pure profit-making point of view ?
      So sad :(

  • Rouge Trader Jethro

imo, what GW should do is put Grey Knights, SoB and Deathwatch into one “Inquisition” Codex. They might be doing this (if they had brains they would) and release new models (or bits for DW) later on. This new SoB digital codex might just be some filler to appease the Sisters players after the hurt they got from 6th, but again that’s just my opinion and my hope.

  • Henrik

So this means that no physical version of the codex will be out? Only for iPad…??
