Yeah as I said the later books they are defiantly more Chaosy and all his other stuff that involves chaos marines it is clear it was just this first book of the series, not sure what it was, but you are right in that it does set Talos and Xarl (I think, it has been awhile) mostly apart from the others. Which fits the characters but it made it jarring when you have Talos doing the torturing in Throne of Lies when it hadn't really been shown that is what he was like.

Lol. Yes, I guess that is true.

I remember reading one part, when they attack some of the Skitarii, and ADB has one on the Imperial side shout something like "Kill those Chaos Space Marines". Kinda made me sit up .. yeah, we're still talking CSM here.

I guess it comes, partly, by distinguishing Talos and his crew from the "more" corrupted cast (Exalted, Black Legion, etc..), but it didn't really go full chaos with them.

Though I know ADB can write far more "chaosy", twisted Night Lords, as in Savage Weapons. Though that one has the advantage of being told from a Dark Angels perspective.

Great review, I would also give it 5/5 as it was fantastic. My only gripe and it is tiny, is that I never really felt like they were Chaos Marines in it which given the fact that it had only been about 100 years for them...They never seemed evil (That isn't really the word I want but hopefully you know what I mean) enough, in the later 2 books and the audio drama this comes through more but I never felt it in the first book.
