is it any wonder? the prices are ridiculous!

way I see it, they get what they deserve. they really should reduce prices to get more people into the hobby. I assume most of their market is aimed at kids, and how they expect kids to afford finecast stuff is just beyond me.
I like GW miniatures but I don't actually buy from the shop itself- I get my stuff online, which, even with shipping costs, is WAY cheaper than buying it in-store.

Totally agree with your comments, especially re: White Dwarf. I am in the same boat as you; started as a young teen, quit after finishing school due to the outrageous prices, and took a look at some recent White Dwarfs with disgust. Scant substance in the articles; no variety; everything very much geared at selling you new releases, etc.

When in 2013 I get "brand new" product with "2005" printed on the sprue, can you blame anyone?! They need to get with the times. Fire the board of directors, fire Matt Ward, & listen to their fan-base. Lower costs across the board by 50%, start allowing those that purchase hardcover codexs & rule books to redeem free supplements. Start charging WAY less for digital editions, & offer a compendium of all rules/codexs/supplements online with free automatic updates online for a single one click price. Games Workshop is in the toilet, any other company that lost 24% of it's net worth overnight would begin corporate restructuring FROM THE GROUND UP. & this isn't even getting into their bogus legal or sales shenanigans with their LICENSED retailers.

Pushing sales has always been the main point. I took up the hobby when I was 14, dropped it at 18 and sold everything (I'm now 24). I distinctly remember being annoyed by how much the sales was the point of it. After some time I realized they divided the clients into the ones who had been there long enough to be treated as actual persons and the majority (especially young kid and their families) as oranges to juice as hard as they could.
I've seen fathers dropping serious money (easily over 100 euros) for something their kids were obviously too young to appreciate (why should anybody aged 6 or 7 be able to have any interest in a game like wh40k).
I was sickened at how white dwarf basically kept getting worse in its transformation from a hobby-related magazine to a plain and simple new products flyer, at how any stupid little news was a reason to bump up the prices (new cases for pain, let's raise the prices; new foundation colors, higher price; basicaly anything new: up the price goes).

I remember the clerks pushing us to buy a stash of already ridicusly overpriced paints because the prices were on teh verge of raising for absolutely no reason.

The entry ticket to any GW game is absolutely crazy. The beginner's packs (at least back then) were awful miniatures and very few of them and were absolutely useless if you planned to seriously take up the game, on the other end, a 1'500 points army could easily cost in the 250 euros range, plus books (rulebook and a codex, about 60), plus at least 10 different colors, plus brushes, plus cutter, plus glues (they kept trying to sell us 2 different kinds of glues, except the 'metal' one worked marvel on plastic as well) plus sand for the bases (yeah, right, 7-8 euros for 100gr of dirt is hell of a deal), plus the primer spray and so on.

i joined the hobby 2 years back, i came to it from ww2 games, i bought the battleforce and a bit more, and my uncle gave me his nid army, havent bought a product since due to the high prices so, this is potentialy mine, and many others who wont buy aggain while most companies sell models for 0.50-1 dollar (au) NOT 6 FOR A SINGLE TACTICAL MARINE!

since than i leant to sculpt, and at a standard people cant tell, so i now do complete sculpt truescale marines, and a ww1 themed ddok all my sculpts and scratchbuilds, with the odd bit of gw conversion sprues, because there prices are rediculas,

as far as the codes creep, i play at a local club, we play with any codes 5/6th edd or a custom one, and 6th edd rule book, we have our own rules for destroying terrain, and we have balanced out the rest as we see fit,

i suggest everyone plays just at there local club rarther than store for this reason, that you enterprate the rules as you see fit, and you can use custom units, providing you all agree to it
