How Large Are The Space Marines Centurions Really?

So. Space Marines Centurions!

The Space Marines may not be getting a Wraithknight-sized walker with their 6th Edition Codex, but the Centurions are – if rumours are correct – fairly large fellows, towering over their Power-armoured and Terminator-armoured battle-brothers alike.

But how large are they really? On 60mm bases, they’d be towering over Dreadnoughts and similar walkers. On 40mm bases, they look fairly puny.

Have a look!

#4 – Thoughts?

The new Space Marines Centurions definitely are chunky guys!

Still, none of the size comparisons above really feel right. Compared to the Dread or Broadside, the Centurions are huge! Compared to the Terminator Librarian, they don’t seem to be larger than a Terminator, which makes some of the heavy-set aesthetics look odd. The legs for example.

Or, perhaps, Games Workshop is doing something altogether different with these?

What do you think?

Z.

Update: Another image appeared, showing the rumoured insights into the back of the Centurion, complete with the Marine piloting it (and what looks like an Adeptus Mechanicum logo at the top of the picture). As a consequence, there surely are as big as a Broadside (though they still may have the – new to 40K – 50mm round bases).

i think a squad of 3 will make a monstrous creature(or have the effect of one on the Battlefield) at least i hope so

  • kaptinscuzgob

i highyly doubt theyre on 60mm bases. a box of 3 broadside-sized creatures seems unreasonable, or at least ridiculously expensive

    • http://pinsofwar.net/ Zweischneid

Well, Chaos Daemons Blood Crushers do just that.

  • dynath

Correct me if I’m wrong but aren’t all GW’s newer 60mm bases textured? like the cracked terrain on a dreadnough base? therefore since they aren’t on textured bases they must be on 40mm bases, correct?

    • http://pinsofwar.net/ Zweischneid

Good point. But that would make them as large as Terminators max. Smaller even for the head, but larger for the legs.

    • DarkStarSabre

They’re not all textured. Bloodcrushers come with blank bases.

My guess is they are on a 40mm base. I did a quick check and I came up with 36.577mm for the approximate base size when I compared the helmet eye socket width between the Centurion and a Tactical Marine (both were 21 pixels) and then the width of the bases (Tactical was 149 pixels and the Centurion was 218 pixels).

    • http://pinsofwar.net/ Zweischneid

True. The more I think about it, the more it seems like they will be 40mm bases.

That does, however, pose it’s own questions. If they are sized about the same as a Terminator, why even bother? And why would you package them 3-a-box (as opposed to Terminator’s 5-a-box)?

The 3-a-box made me think (perhaps wrongly) in the direction of Bloodcrushers of Khorne.

Well. Rumours say the Centurions are – very literally – (Power-Armoured) Space Marines inside another suit of Armour.

Supposedly, you can actually see the (regular, Power-Armoured) Space Marine by looking at the miniature from behind, and the mechanics that “move” the Centurion.

If that is true, I think it could be quite a fantastic miniature actually.

But, of course, not very large, as the helmet would – literally – be the helmet of a regular Space Marine in power-armour piloting that thing.

Just let my Dark Angels get them.
    That’s all I ask.
Give us the option to take a twin-linked plasma cannon instead of silly grav weapons.

This might seem abysmally amateurish of me, but I compared the purity seals on the dreadnought and librarian to the purity seals on the centurions, and it synchs a lot better with the librarian than the dreadnought. I figured they would have at least a semi-continuous size of purity seal.

There’s a 50mm round base in the Azog set for GW’s The Hobbit. It seems like it would be perfect size for the new Space Marine Centurions.

    • http://pinsofwar.net/ Zweischneid

Indeed. I keep hearing people mention it.

It seems increasingly like a very plausible thing that 50mm round bases are coming to 40K

That “other people” who mentioned it on Facebook was me. :)

Cool. Sorry. Didn’t make that connection ;)

  • Moivin26887

If you look at the very far left of the original unedited image for the devastator ones there is one of the GW fule drums, comes about 1/2 way up the mini on the base, i would guess at least 1.75-2″ tall?

  • Denephelon

I’m still betting on 40mm bases. if you look in the new image the space marine’s feet are *just* above the centurions. i’d say they are gonna just a bit taller, and quite a bit more bulky than the current Termies.

  • NagaBaboon

Looking at the head it seems to be closest to the 60mm base sized models (otherwise the librarian’s bare head is larger than the helmet of the centurion) but I agree, it still doesn’t look quite right in any of them. I hope it is the 50mm base that’s been mentioned.

  • Hive Senteniel

I was under the impression that these new centurion were to be a pinch taller than Terminators but shorter than a Dreadnought

  • Grey knight 223

They are on new 50mm bases the same ones as Aszog from the hobbit

    • http://pinsofwar.net/ Zweischneid

Interesting. That possibly means we’ll see more of that size in future releases…

  • 6baalsach9

power armor for space marines’ power armor – nice…
