Black Library is launching a new series-format for their novels: Black Library Classics!
We certainly didn’t have a new format in.. probably a week or so. On the upside, this on will be available available on Amazon and be relatively affordable. Three – truly classic – Black Library books will start off the series in October / November (and, with a bit of luck, on Games Day)
- First and Only by Dan Abnett
- Nightbringer by Graham McNeill
- Trollslayer by William King
#1 – First and Only – Dan Abnett
Dan Abnett’s very first Black Library novel, First and Only, and the first book in the story of Gaunt’s Ghosts.
In the war-torn future of the 41st millenium, the Sabbat Worlds Crusade has begun. With the massed ranks of the Imperial Guard hard-pressed by the evil forces of Chaos, mankind must prevail – whatever the cost in lives. Commissar Ibram Gaunt has vowed to lead the men of the Tanith First-and-Only safely through the scheming of rival regiments just as much as the lethal firepower of the enemy.
#2 – Nightbringer – Graham McNeil
Graham McNeill’s first book for Black Library, Nightbringer, introducing Uriel Ventris in Black Library’s first Ultramarines novel!
Newly promoted Ultramarines Captain Uriel Ventris is assigned to investigate Pavonis, an Imperial planet plagued by civil disorder and renegade eldar raiders. But nothing is as straightforward as it appears, and Uriel and his allies are forced into a deadly race against time to destroy their shadowy enemy – or the whole planet must be sacrificed for the good of humanity.
#3 – Trollslayer
William King’s first book for Black Library, Trollslayer, which also happens to be the first Gotrek & Felix novel.
After fleeing the authorities in the Imperial city of Altdorf, Felix Jaeger swears a drunken oath to dour dwarf Gotrek Gurnisson to record his death saga. In the cold light of day, Felix’s worst fears are confirmed as he learns that Gotrek is a Trollslayer – a dwarf doomed to seek out a heroic death in battle to atone for an unknown personal disgrace. Their travels throw them into a string of extraordinary adventures as Felix tries to survive his companion’s destiny.
#4 – Are You Tempted To (Re-)Read The Classics?
For less than 10 quid off Amazon (£12.99 straight from Black Library) they are still ~50% more expensive than the regular paperback versions (and no, these aren’t hardcover books).
As these books are all well-worn best-sellers, they should all be available in an omnibus of some kind. Abnett’s First and Only, for example, obviously starts the first Tanith’s First Omnibus.
Still, they are shiny and at least make me consider diving into some of the early Black Library Classics from the 1990s.
What do you think?
- Are you tempted?
- Could you see yourself picking up one of those?
- Should people stay away from
over-premiumpriced re-runs?
Leave a comment and let me know!
