New Ogryns for the Imperial Guard (or … Astra Militarum)

Orgyn Rumours

The rumour-stars align and … apparently through a box sent out in error … there is news about plastic Ogryns, including a close combat/riot variant for the soon-to-come 6th Edition Imperial Guard, or rather, Astra Militarium, as it seems to have been renamed.

Hello Natfka, I am not normally a rumour guy.

However, I have today seen (and held) something I was not supposed to.
“Astra Militarium Bullgryns”

Shrink wrapped box ready for sale; I don’t know what that implys about
release time.

Three Plastic “Bullgryns” which seem to be armoured Ogryns with large
riot style shields. Looked to be on the same bases as the Space Marine
Centurians. They are painted in a new looking blue/gray urban cammo.
They have armoured looking torsos and loin cloth type things made out
of tank tracks (!). They also seemed to have cybernetic enchancement
(ala Boneheads).

Looking at the back of the box, there was a small picture indicating
they could also be built as traditional Ogryns, which retain there
T-shirts and Ripper guns look. The Orgryn on the back had a Green T
shirt.

#2 – Plastic Ogryn Rumours vs. 40K Radio

So some exciting news. A listener of ours was at a GW store today that mistakenly received a shipment of some unreleased items. It was the plastic Ogryn kit. The rename is confirmed as they were called Militarum Auxillia. Boom! Nailed it.

 #3 – Thoughts?

It’s still near-impossible to sift genuine rumours from noise these days, but coming from different sources, one of them “40K Radio” with their mostly impeccable record, these sound like the real thing.

Plastic Ogryns?

Along with the new fancy name, it appears that Games Workshop is moving away from not-historical-soldiers, pushing the Imperial Guard into a more “trademarkable” direction. Ogryns (assuming GW has tabs on them) could be a piece in the puzzle. No?

If that is the general thrust, the (probably) downside is that a lot of entries from the Imperial Guard Astra Militarum Codex without official miniatures are bound to go the way of the Doom of Malan’tai. In this case, that would be a lot of Special Characters, incl. fan-favourite Sly Marbo (hard to keep that one, if you’re picky about non-piracy, I suppose).

His Days Might Be Numbered….

Leave a comment and let me know what you think?

I hope any new release of the Ork Codex (when it arrives) allows for Ogryns to be taken as an elite or troop choice. They used to be in the Ork Codex several iterations ago. Otherwise my Orks will need IG “allies” of convenience in order for me to field a unit of them.

Oh yah that would be cool! “Waaargh! Orks” talked about Ogryns who were found by Orks before humans. I agree with you maybe some kind of unique rule in the new Astra Mili-whatever will allow that, but I doubt it.

You know. Everytime I hear about stuff like this I get excited. But a box by accident? I wouldn’t trust it only due to the fact that if said person has said item, why can’t we get a picture of said item? Even blurry would of been awesome because no one has a good camera phone these days.

    Astra sounds like a car.

Hehe. I suppose the car wanted to be a star ,)

Astra is really just that … star. As in Astrology or Astronomy.

Or, it could be the Australian Subscription Television and Radio Association ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_Subscription_Television_and_Radio_Association )

if this rumour is true i forsee games workshop shooting themselves in the foot, milquetoast renaming aside (Astra militarium just doesn’t have the same ring to it as imperial guard, but my guess that is just a official title like adeptus astartes with imperial guard being a colloquial term) part of the appeal of the guard miniatures was the fact that they echoed the looks of actual military uniforms rather than being generically sci-fi and there was a huge level of variation
