How To Paint Dark Angels Space Marines Eye Lenses

For a Dark Angels army, it is good to have common elements that ties the different parts of the army – Deathwing, Ravenwing and regular Dark Angels – together. For me, one such element is the red spot colour. The following is a brief tutorial on how I paint the red eye lenses on a Deathwing Terminator. I use the same technique for eyes on all Dark Angels Marines.

This painting tutorial is a guest article by Tom from Mini Brush Studio.

For this tutorial I used the following Citadel paints.

  1. Mephiston Red (Base)
  2. Evil Sunz Scarlet (Layer)
  3. Wild Rider Red (Layer)
  4. White Scar (Layer)

Step 1 – Base Layer

First I apply a base layer of Mephiston Red.

Step 2 – First Highlight

After that a mid highlight using Evil Sunz Scarlet.

The mid highlight starts from the eye corner (left in the picture) up to about the middle of the eye.

Step 3 – Second Highlight

The second highlight – using Wild Rider Red - starts from the same point. However it is only half as long and focuses more the bottom of the eye, somewhat below the mid highlight.

Step 4 – White Spot Colour

Deathwing Terminators

To finish the eye lenses I am adding a glance at the back of the eye as a short dot or line using Games Workshop’s Citadel White Scar.

Certainly sounds as good advice and to the point. I appreciate that images are properly magnified to illustrate the example – DA players should be happy about this info :)
