The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug – Movie Trailer

The Hobbit The Desolation of Smaug

Slightly off-topic. Or perhaps not. Today saw the release of the first trailer for the second instalment of the Hobbit movie “trilogy” (guess we all got used to that).

The Hobbit miniatures games … dunno … I still don’t see it getting a lot of game-time, though I know some people are playing it. Either way, the release of the second movie is going to bring a new batch of miniatures. Looking at the trailer, a Smaug miniature seems almost unavoidable.

The Desolation of Smaug Teaser Trailer

As for the Trailer itself… I guess it sticks to the overall theme and tone of the first Hobbit movie, being slightly more “video-gamy” than the original LoTR trilogy, while also trying to infuse the Hobbit with a similar sense of epic grandeur that made the LoTR-movies such a success, but sits a bit odd with the Hobbit as a children’s novel.

Also, Smaug himself looks oddly underwhelming to me, though I hope they’ll tinker on the effects some more in the coming weeks.

What do you think?

Are you looking forward to the Hobbit Part 2?

The trailer isnt bad imo, but I doubt i will wach this. The first movie was a real chore to watch. Every single shot was way longer than necessary and the invulnerability of the heroes vs baddies was too disproportionate for me to enjoy any of the action. I can go on a further rant of what else bothered me, but Ill spare you.

Yah. I’ll probably end up seeing it at some point, if as rental.

But all the mad excitement from last year, the anticipation of “OMG they are making the Hobbit!!!!!” kinda vaporized.
