In honour of today’s release of the Codex: Astra Militarum, formerly known as Codex: Imperial Guard (or CAMfkasCIG), I dipped back into the Golden Demon collection for some inspirational highlights on what the world’s best miniature painters did with the Imperial Guard, back when it still was the Imperial Guard.
Enjoy!
#1 – Leman Russ Battle Tank by Craig Clarke
There is no shortage of amazing tanks in the Golden Demon collection, and I could’ve picked any number of them.
I really liked this take on the Leman Russ by Craig Clarke, which took a Golden Demon in Australia in 2011. Great weathering. Great light-effects, and possibly the coolest, most grizzled tank commander I’ve seen.
#2 – Kaskrin Stormtroopers by Jamie Downward
In Memoriam: Kaskrins…. a Silver Demon from Australia for Jamie Downward in 2010.
#3 – Imperial Guard Sentinel by Sebastian Archer
The Imperial Guard sure is popular Down Under. As is the Sentinel among Golden-Demon-Painters, it appears.
This one is just a perfect take on the trusty little walker in just about every way. Golden Demon for Sebastian Archer in 2008.
#4 – Traitor Guardmen by Scott Browser
Traitors!!
How did those get in here?
Well, mostly by a really awesome old-school take to the Traitors… and, rare for Traitor Guard, without a Nurgle effect too. I really like these guys, which won Scott Browser a Golden Demon in Atlanta back in 2005.
#5 – Ogryn Commissar by Philippe Renaude
The new plastic Ogryns are here. I wonder if/when somebody will take the kit (which comes with a mechanical shoulder-Commissar too) as far as Philippe Renaude did on Games Day France 2007 for a deserved Golden Demon.
#Bonus Round – Ork vs. Leman Russ by Paul Capon
I admit, this is as much Ork as Imperial Guard, but I simply had to include it. Easily one of the best dual/diorama-type entries to the Demon of all times, and a Golden Demon at the UK Games Day 2004 for Paul Capon.
Thoughts?
Leave a comment and let me know which entry you like best!
