X-Wing Imperial Aces Squadron List Building Thoughts

X-Wing Miniatures Game Imperial Aces

Ever since I received my Imperial Aces box, I’ve experimented with TIE Interceptors. Mostly, it’s been painfully humiliating.

Squadrons with just 3 blinged-out Interceptors aren’t (so far) doing it for me. Probably due to my lack of piloting skills. So am trying 2 “Aces” and 3 Academy Pilots are red shirt escorts.

Anyhow, long story short, here’s a little list I hope to try tonight (possibly adjusted for comments, if you have some insights to share.

#1 – An Imperial Aces Squadron

Squadron Points
TIE Interceptors (aka “the Aces”)
Soontir Fel + Push the Limit & Targeting Computer 32
Royal Guard + Push the Limit & Stealth Device 28
Tie Fighters
Backstabber 16
Academy Pilot 12
Academy Pilot 12
Total 100

#2 – Thoughts?

I am intrigued by the option to add a Target Lock with the Targeting Computer. It should play nicely off Soontir Fel and his occasional free Focus Token.

Soontir FelA Royal Guard Pilot with some nice tools gives me a good excuse to fly a red TIE Interceptor.

The TIE Fighters are there to make maneuvering more difficult for my opponent, with Backstabber in particular (hopefully) presenting them with some tough choices when my TIEs and TIE Interceptors swarm out.

Of course, I could also downgrade Backstabber to a regular Academy Pilot, which would allow me to turn the red TIE Interceptor into a named pilot, that is either Carnor Jax (likely) or Kir Kanos (less so) to keep it red. Worth a though.

Let me know what you think?

If you’ve had some success with the Imperial Aces (e.g. owning just one box… can’t build a 4 Royal Guard spam-list), let me know!

interesting list I will have to try it out some time when I have the Imperial aces and TIE interceptor expansion pack. In my opinion I would choose Dark Curse instead of Backstabber since I like Dark Curse’s ability which prevents your opponents attacking ship using focus tokens or re-rolling attack dice.

Yeah… but half the idea is to give incentives for the opponent to not shoot the pricey Interceptors (or risk a TIE Fighter in your back, that does as much damage as an Interceptor).

If I use Dark Curse, most opponents would just ignore him and go for the Interceptors first, I think.

when I have all the ships for the list I will give both pilots a go in separate games to see which
        works best.
To be honest I don’t use Backstabber as much in other lists , yet again I’m fairly new to game
and I will have go at experimenting different pilots.

three Interceptors, three Saber squadron pilots, three copies of Push The Limit. keep them in tight formation (as squints and eyeballs should be), careful not to bump them, focus fire. the benefit of the interceptor is the extra red die over a standard TIE.keeping them in close quarters is a pretty much got to be done.
