3 More Titbits from the August 2013 White Dwarf

The Black Legion in Warhammer 40K

Games Workshop’s August 2013 White Dwarf will be hitting shops and letter boxes this weekend. The big news are, of course, new Lizardmen for Warhammer Fantasy Battle. However, those with early copies of the White Dwarf gleaned a few more interesting titbits from its pages.

Here are three interesting bits:

#1 – Black Legion Codex Supplement Confirmed

Apparently, the August 2013 White Dwarf confirms the rumoured Black Legions Supplement for the Chaos Space Marines Codex.

Horus was weak. Horus was a fool.
He had the whole galaxy within his grasp and he let it slip away.

- Abaddon the Despoiler

Personally, I would’ve preferred something on the Red Corsairs, since Forge World is working their way through the original Space Marines legions. Still, the Black Legion may well be the Legion most different (of those that weren’t scattered into the winds) from its Sons of Horus counter-part during the Horus Heresy era, so I’m intrigued to see what they do with this one.

#2 – Marco Colombo Games Day Miniature (?)

Blurry pictures taken from the Brush 4 Hire video that show Marco Colombo, the man who “discovered” Lustria in c 1492 in the Warhammer Fantasy world, are floating around.

Since he discovered Lustria, it makes sense to bundle him with the release of the new Lizardmen. He doesn’t appear in the Lizardmen release rumours, and he obviously isn’t a part of that army.

He may be (?) this year’s Games Day miniature? Looks like it.

#3 – “Gamer’s Edition” of the 40K Mini-Rulebook

A (fan/self-made) price-list circulating on Facebook lists a “Gamer’s Edition” version of the Warhammer 40K mini-rulebook one get’s (thus far) in the Dark Vengeance boxed set.

That particular lists prices it at 49.50 US dollars and 59.50 Canadian dollars.

I am not sure what to think of this one. It would seem that a fancy “Gamer’s Edition” could do little but compromise the utility of a small, cheap “pocket-sized” rulebook, whose entire point (I thought) was to be cheap and … well .. not fancy.

I guess we’ll see this weekend what Games Workshop is planning here.

Thoughts?

Interesting times ahead.

Which of these upcoming releases are you most interested in? Or, at least, most curious about?

looks like i’ll be getting my first suppliment codex in a couple of months when the black legion hardcover one comes out

  • belverker

also will be interested in the new mqrco columbo, love the old one

I have a feeling “gamer’s edition” refers more to the fact that it’ll be targeted at “regulars,” instead of people who are new to the hobby, at whom the “big” rulebook is targeted.

I could see the Gamer’s Edition being a full size “rules only” type of manual. That should put it about the size of a codex which the price in question seems to indicate.

      Hmm…

It’s a possibility, though I would think they’d use the term “mini-rulebook” (whatever edition) to refer to the smaller size of the DV mini-rulebook.

That’s why I’m thinking it is the full size pages of just the rules. So the content of the mini-rulebook but the size of the hardcover.

I’d really prefer an Alpha Legion supplement to Black, but this could be cool.
