Games Workshop’s New Warhammer 40K Releases

Today sees the massive launch of new Games Workshop … Hobbit Products!!!

Really. It’s true.

That said, talk of the town is still the grab-bag of products Games Workshop is putting out for Warhammer 40K (and the priorities are pretty clear from the Baneblade featured on the December 2013 White Dwarf cover).

Here’s a little summary of what is out (or on pre-order) today.

#1 – Codex Space Marines Ultimate Edition

GW tops their Limited Edition Space Marines Codex with the £150.00 Ultima Edition.

What Games Workshop did do, however, was put together a nice little video that shows off the contents far better than I could.

#2 – Stronghold Assault and Escalation

Stronghold Assault

Two new source-books for Warhammer 40K, Stronghold Assault and Warhammer 40K Escalation, give you the opportunity to give your games of Warhammer 40K a slight “Apocalypse-flavour” without going the whole way.

  • Stronghold Assault adds Fortifications.
  • Escalation adds options for Superheavy Units.

Both books appear to be causing a fair amount of “the sky is falling”-angst among some people. A few test-plays would surely help to get a grip on those books.

#3 – Forge World’s Lorgar

Last but not least, Forge World throw their hat into the ring with the 4th Space Marines Primarch, Lorgar of the Word Bearers, the first of the Primarchs to turn from the Emperor.

As with their previous Primarch’s a nice video with insights from the sculptor. Have a look!

#4 – Thoughts?

Sooooo

What’s on your shopping list this weekend? The Hobbit? Warhammer 40K? Both? Neither?

Leave a comment and let me know!

I think the Ultima edition is kind of silly while a Die-hard space marine fan would love this in his collection, They really don’t seem to get much other than a box full of fancy pictures and a Codex. While the Chaos collection get’s, two codices and a supplement. On the other hand LORGAR :)!!!

    • Yggdrasil

      Totally agree.
Also, if they had released them simultaneously with the “regular” Limited Edition, I might have bought the 200+ € editions…
Now that I’ve already paid 78€ for the LE SM Codex, and twice that amount for the Chaos Daemons & CSM ones, I’m not going to pay more for any other “ULTRA-LIMITED” item…

Nothing on the release list seems worth it, wit the possible exception of Lorgar.

The ultima edition is just so overpriced, for stuff thats not new, just blinged up.

And the escalation book is just so wrong in many ways.
