Off-Topic: Marvel Comics Re-Invents Ms. Marvel

Marvel Comics has been all over the sliver-screens for a while now. Iron Man, Avengers, etc…, currently Thor 2. While Marvel kills it at the box office, comic book sales are (apparently) in decline though, and they appear to be looking for some solution somewhere.

At the very least, Marvel got a lot of public attention when they announced they’d turn their 3rd tier cheesecake character “Ms. Marvel” into 16-year old with a Pakistani and Muslim background.

#1 – The New Ms. Marvel

A new hero comes to the Marvel Universe next year with her own all-new solo title. Following the epic events of INFINITY, a 16-year-old Muslim girl from New Jersey discovers extraordinary body-morphing powers and follows in the footsteps of her idol, Captain Marvel, to become the new Ms. Marvel.

From the creative team of G. Willow Wilson and Adrian Alphona, MS. MARVEL launches in February 2014.

#2 – The Old Ms. Marvel

The old Ms. Marvel, of course, was all-american, blonde hairs, blue eyes, and a lot less clothes!

#3 – Thoughts?

Well… there are clearly some very good and noble intentions at work.

Will it open Marvel Comics to a whole new type of audience? Probably not.

Still, having recently had a bit of an argument on the (often inappropriate?) depiction on  female characters in miniature wargaming (and comics, Hawk Eye Project and all), I thought I’d share!

it just more of marvel trying to increase racial diversity in their universe just like when the made spiderman Hispanic. personally i think its kind of sad they might as well have called them token.

I like Carol Danvers, but I do like the look of this new one. So worst case is I give it a shot and don’t like it. Old Ms. Marvel is the new Captain Marvel nowadays so she hasn’t gone anywhere.

i don’t think it will matter much female based comics at marvel seem to struggle anyway, but good on them for trying something different with the character name, and as has been said Carol is still around so it isn’t like they have rebooted the original character, if this doesn’t work like they hope she will come back to being ms marvel and this one will probably be forgotten of join the young avengers

Dammit, they’re Harley Quinning Ms. Marvel… Can they not make up a new name for this obviously new hero?
Strange, how they come up with the idea to make a Muslim, female, New Jerseyan hero “in equality” but they cannot give her her own name. It’s so weird. One would think that it’d be obvious how controversial this would be. Now, instead of having a NEW hero with her own background and storyline out of Jersey, we have a hero who will probably not live up to her potential as a character because fans might just constantly compare her to the old Ms. Marvel.
She has an identity of her own, give her her own name.
