would you like to know what the next digital exclusive codex is going to be?

Of course you would.

via… Black Library

This November, you will be able to download the brand new Codex: Inquisition.

A full codex, packed with background and artwork on the forces of the Imperium’s most secretive and powerful organization. You’ll soon be able to field an Inquisitor and their retinue in any Imperial army in games of Warhammer 40,000.

Thoughts?

Oh boy… GW Digital Editions truly is the place where things are happening at the moment.

Too bad this one is also labeled as “digital exclusive”, similar to the Codex: Adepta Sororitas. I can only assume this means no physical book (for either) for the foreseeable future.

  • Let me know what you think?
  • Good to have an Inquisition Codex?
  • Bad to have it Digital only?

I would certainly love to hear your thoughts on this one!

Z.

Q & A from Facebook:

Q: Will Codex:Inquisition be replacing Codex:Grey Knights then? Or act as a completely different entity?

A: Codex: Grey Knights isn’t being replaced, but this book means you don’t need to use Grey knights to add inquisitors into any Imperial army.

Q: So, new models rollout? Or just rules and fluff.

A: No new models, but plenty of new background, artwork and rules.

Q: Will there be a printed version?

A: At first at least, it will be a digital exclusive. There is no date set for a print edition.

This is very very exciting. It has always made sense to me that an Inquisitor should be able to draw on any of the Imperium’s armed forces. A paper copy would be nice, but these digital editions do seem to have allowed for a more rapid release schedule – which is good.

Perhaps this will allow players to field “Old-style” Grey Knights armies, with ACTUAL Inquisitorial Storm troopers (dear Emperor, give them a Valkyrie transport option!!!), Death Cult assassins NOT mashed into cookie-cutter retinues, and the like? Maybe even Deathwatch and options for a Ordo Xenos army? So many possibilities… *drool*

    • Panzer_Engel

Ah. I miss the logic of the old ‘Hunter’ Codices (and am one of those who was hoping for a Codex; Xenos to complete the set. Don’t tell me it wouldn’t have sold. There’s a major following for the Deathwatch. . . )

  • belverker

Bloody hell I don’t have the budget for this…it is good that they are releasing things like this would much rather a physical book but if they couldn’t release them digitally I don’t think we would see this or the sisters one so it is a good thing, and hey at least they are attempting t embrace technology

  • Chronosmaximus

So are they going to split up the inquisition forces from the Grey Knights or what? This dosn`t make any sense. You can already make a full inquisitorial army with humans only in the Codex Grey Knights.

    • Raarman

You can make one from C:GK but with limits. You’re forced to take a specific special char Inquisitor (Coteaz) if you don’t want any GK in your Inquisitorial army, so you can take the Henchmen units as Troops. It’s restrictive for those of us who can’t stand the GK but like Inquisitors.

  • Chronosmaximus

I wonder if the new Codex: Inquisition is being released because Codex: Grey Knights will be revamped in the near future and maybe only include the Adeptus Astartes part of the current dex? It seems like it is gonna have a a alot of weird questions for tournaments like, “So are you playing an Inquisition army from Codex: Grey Knights or Codex: Inquisition?” or “Oh, so you are playing Codex: Inquisition with inquisition allies from Codex: Grey Knights, so you can have 3 cheap inquisitor HQs with 3 servitor squads having 3 plasma cannons each, alright, now I get you.”.

  • morbidmonkey182

I must admit I’m not over keen on digital products in general and digital codex are very unappealing to me. However I’m hopin that the digital codex for sisters and inquisitors is merely a prelude to a hard back codex which encompasses all three (grey knights included) and would work in a similar way to codec space marines. That’s my hope wouldn’t be surprised if Gw did something different though :-/ u
