Games Workshop recently moved to a weekly release schedule for their new books and product, complete with changing the White Dwarf from a monthly to a weekly format.
For the most part, it’s been a wild ride so far. Dwarfs, more Dwarfs, Imperial Knights, Imperial Knights Codex, a new Chaos Helbrute, a new Chaos Space Marine Supplement…. It’s hard to believe it’s been 1 1/2 months since Games Workshop started their new rapid-fire releases.
This week? We get an Apoc campaign book + novel?
#1 – Warzone Damocles
All across the Damocles Gulf planet-wide battles are being fought. Led by Commander Shadowsun, the Tau have returned to reclaim the region they lost long ago. The Imperial Guard, bolstered by White Scars and Raven Guard Space Marines and Imperial Knights, defend the worlds of the Imperium against the Tau Third Sphere Expansion.
Apocalypse War Zone:Damocles is the 4th book in the series. This 68 page, full-colour hardback book includes:
- Eighteen new data sheets for Imperial Guard, Imperial Knights, Space Marines and Tau Empire.
- 4 New apocalypse missions
- New strategic assets and Damocles finest hours
#2 – Thoughts?
This looks like a fine little product for Apocalypse, as far as 68 pages make a nice product.
It also brings up two interesting points, or questions.
- Going to a weekly release schedule… do you really have exciting stuff to release each week? I don’t want to insult fans of Apocalypse 40K, but this one certainly feels a bit … unexciting … compared to the last 7 weeks.
- Do we really still need Apocalypse 40K? The regular version, for better or worse, is mostly Apocalypse in all but name already: Super-Heavy, Formations, etc… With multiple FoCs introduced in 6th Edition, it even scales to ridiculous high point levels.
Are you looking forward to getting your hands on the Damocles campaign book?
Is this perhaps a boon of the weekly release schedule, that even “smaller” releases like this get their moment in the sun, instead of being buried deep below a given month’s “big” release?
Let me know what you think!
