The New Starter Set for Warhammer 40K 7th Edition Is …

Dark Angels vs. Crimson Slaughter

… Dark Vengeance!

It is clear now that Warhammer 40K 7th Edition is close at hand.

One of the main question many people have is whether there will be a new starter set. And if so, which armies are in it. The closer we get to the date (end of this month?), the more frenzied the rumour mill appears to become.

  • Orks vs. Blood Angels?
  • Eldar vs. the Guard?
  • Sisters vs. Squats?

A lot of people are getting their hopes up. Who wouldn’t? The Dark Vengeance miniatures, even though they are push-fit, are very, very nice.

And they are here to stay. The starter box for Warhammer 40K 7th Edition is the same as the starter box for Warhammer 40K 6th Edition (save, presumably, for a new mini-rule book).

It’s not truly a new rumour in any shape or form. 40K Radio said it months ago that 7th Edition was a “book only”-release. But it bears repeating, I suppose.

Dark Vengeance is here to stay. It’ll be the push-fit miniatures starter-box for Warhammer 40K for 2014 and beyond.

as i said in the other post.. this is just updated 6th.. it isnt 7th yet.

we are 2 years into the cycle.

    The cycle is 4-5years.

So the start set for 6.5 ed? yep DV

  • Tyranthammer

Surprise it’s not 7th ed it’s just a updated rule book that includes the expansions and new FOC. However apparently they are going to FAQ the heck out of the current rule book so 6.5 isn’t mandatory!!!

I wish websites and blogs would just knock off kicking any “rumors” around until whatever GW releases gets released. We don’t need to know everything in advance. Just let it happen and report on it. Surely there is enough to blog about with the current releases. This “rumor mill” crapoica is more annoying that Games w
    Workshop’s marketing plan.

No way… Say it ain’t so… I really hope this is bunk and we see a new box.

If 40k makes gross changes to the FoC I’m out.

As I point out on my own blog, a new book isn’t a new edition. It’s an expansion like Planetstrike or Cities of Death. The difference being that this should be considered compulsory perhaps?

That is a fairly arbitrary distinction. Under “new edition”, I would see new rules. Miniatures would be unrelated to that.

I could (in theory) imagine multiple starter-boxes (new miniatures) in the “same edition”, and “multiple editions” (as in rulebook-updates, even total breaks like from 2nd to 3rd) without updates of miniatures.

Defining the term “edition” through the miniatures seems to create more problems than it solves as far as terminology goes.

An “expansion”, it would seem, is an “add-on”, something that “expands on X”, but cannot be used without X. A core rulebook (edition or not) doesn’t really fit that category IMO.

Nope, it specifically says in the white dwarf that it is the “next edition”
