I recently completed painting a Raven Guard Space Marines force. I painted the Camo-Cloaks of the scouts in an urban camouflage scheme that I present in this months painting tutorial.
I think this camouflage scheme would also look great on other miniatures with a city-fight theme. I hope you like it.
For painting the urban camouflage cloaks for these Raven Guard Space Marine Scouts I used the following Citadel paints:Abaddon Black (Base)
- Abaddon Black (Base)
- Mechanicus Standard Grey (Base)
- Celestra Grey (Base)
- Stormvermin Fur (Layer)
- Dawnstone (Layer)
- White Scar (Layer)
- Agrax Earthshade (Shade)
Step 1 – Basecoat
First I build up a solid base colour with Mechanicus Standard Grey.
Step 2 – First Set of Camouflage Spots
After the base colour, I randomly added spots of Celestra Grey to the entirety of the scout cloak. It is important to make sure all edges of the spots are solid.
Step 3 – Second Set of Camouflage Spots
The next step is virtually the same as above, painting a second overlapping set of spots, this time using Stormvermin Fur.
Step 4 – Third Set of Camouflage Spots
Continue as above with a third layer of spots that overlap both of the previous colours in random places. For this third set of spots, I used a mix of Abaddon Black and Dawnstone.
Step 5 – Shading the Camouflage Cloak
Once all the camouflage spots have dried, shade the entire cloak using Agrax Earthshade.
Step 6 – Final Highlight
As a last step, highlight the most prominent folds of the camouflage cloak with White Scar.
Showcase – Raven Guard Scout Squad
Finally a picture of the completed squad of Raven Guard Space Marine Scouts with their urban cameouflage cloaks! You can take a 360° look at the unit on YouTube.
